2007 NYI Report

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

          ~Romans 12:4-5

The Body of Christ is a beautiful thing.  It works. It plays. And, it grows and develops as it is challenged to change.  This was the case for our week of camp this summer.

We had an amazing week learning about being the body of Christ and striving to live that knowledge out in our everyday lives.  We learned about how the body of Christ loves regardless of the circumstance; We learned what the body is supposed to be and what God requires in that action; We also learned that the body is required to do certain things which makes it identifiable to those who are seeking to know more about the God who is the head of this body.  We practiced being the body in our Focus on Purity that we worked through each day.  And, we also spent our afternoons in ministry tracks learning that it takes each member in this body to make the whole thing work correctly.  This idea came to fruition as we hosted an outreach event called Summerbration in the town of Harrison.  After everyone spent an afternoon canvassing homes on either Tuesday and Wednesday, we set up a carnival style event at the Harrison Community Center on Thursday afternoon.

The goal was to host children from the surrounding area for an afternoon of relationship building and free fun, giving our students an opportunity to DO what it is that we have spent the week talking about.  The result was approximately 400 plus people attending an event that our students pitched in and made happen.  They ran games, did crafts, served food and drinks, talked with children, painted faces, and many other tasks.  And, the day was a huge success showing our students exactly what it was that we were trying to teach all week long.  It was incredible!
